Beginning

Zanzibar

February 2015 is the beginning of our adventure and subsequent decisions. This time, which initiated changes in the perception of human life, awakened the layers of empathy and willingness to help.

It all started on the island of Zanzibar. Exotic holidays, beautiful white beaches, luxury hotels, breathtaking views and low tides. Outside the hotel, at every step, someone accosts you – not necessarily to sell something, sometimes just to exchange a few words with you, say hello or greet you.

At every step, you can meet the Masai people here. Their cultural and ethnic separateness can not go unnoticed – they are a great attraction for tourists. They are almost an inseparable element of the landscape in this region. Their beautiful, colorful costumes, upright silhouette and innate sense of pride and dignity arouse the interest of many tourists. Not in a way to pass by them indifferently.

Walks into the sea during low tides usually accompany the Maasai people. They are great guides in watching the coral reef, and on the occasion of such a walk you can learn more about their lives and habits.

In this way, we met Alex. This is Masai inhabiting the northern areas of Tanzania where tourists do not reach. It was with him we went for walks. He showed us various creatures inhabiting the reef, the wonderful bottom of the sea, we walked where we had previously bathed. Another time he took us to a nearby village and there we saw “factories” in which the production of various things for tourists (shoes, beads, bracelets) took place. It’s real craft. He also took us to school, where we met the director, who willingly showed us how to teach. We felt like we were honorary guests. At the end we got a card with an account number if we wanted to support their activities. We have not yet caught the bug to help others, it happened six months later after this trip.
